The Parkinson’s Foundation is excited to announce plans to invite Neurology residents to participate in an exclusive educational program hosted by the Foundation on October 20-22, 2025, in Colorado. This new initiative is designed to introduce Neurology residents to the specialty of Movement Disorders through the Parkinson’s Foundation Team Training program with a focus on Parkinson’s disease (PD) and interprofessional models of care—a critical, yet often underrepresented, component in formal residency training.

Why Participate?

  • Immersive Learning Experience: Learn from and engage with an interprofessional healthcare team including physicians, APPs, nurses, psychologists, physical and occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, social workers, and others to develop knowledge and skills in team-based, patient-centered care for Parkinson’s disease.

  • Career Exploration: Gain exposure to Movement Disorders and interprofessional care models to help inform your career decision.

  • Mentorship & Networking: Engage with leading experts in neurology and Movement Disorders, including the Parkinson’s Foundation Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and our Team Training Faculty who will provide guidance and support throughout the program design process as well as teaching/training.

  • Fully Funded: Registration, travel (ground and air), lodging, and meals will be covered for the Neurology resident attendees.

  • Future Impact: The program aims to increase the pipeline of Movement Disorder Specialists (MDS) in the U.S., helping address the urgent need for more specialists to treat the growing number of people diagnosed with Parkinson’s.

What to Expect?

  • Pre-course knowledge and interest assessment

  • Comprehensive didactic lectures

  • Panels with patients and care partners

  • Interprofessional live case assessment

  • Small group sessions with case-based presentations, learning, discussion, etc.

  • Exclusive networking dinner with the PF CMO and physician faculty for the course

  • Post-course follow-up survey to measure impact of program on interest in pursuing career in Movement Disorders

This program is designed for PGY3 Neurology residents who are interested in Movement Disorders or still exploring their career focus in neurology.

While the primary focus is on PGY3 Neurology Residents, we encourage applications from highly motivated PGY2 and PGY4 residents as well.

Interested PGY3 Neurology residents should email Denise Beran at TeamTraining@Parkinson.org for pre-approval to secure a seat in the program. Please write “Resident” in the Subject line.

Training Details

  • Dates: Monday through Wednesday, October 20, 21, 22, 2025 (three full days)

  • Location: Denver, CO, USA

  • Participants: Up to 15 Neurology residents will be accepted into this program.  The selected residents will participate along with approximately 85 other HCPs representing clinicians on the MDS team.

  • Future Opportunities: Once training is completed, residents will have the opportunity to return for Advanced Team Training the in future years—a specialized two-day advanced level course on Parkinson’s disease and interprofessional care.

  • Residents who complete the training will join the group of Team Training Alumni which will give them access to the 2,000 plus trained alumni to continue growing your HCP network and will always be given the opportunity to join our monthly office hours for alumni to receive updates on key Parkinson’s research and clinical care.

Program Learning Outcomes

At the end of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Differentiate between the clinical characteristics of early, mid-, and late-stage Parkinson’s to guide appropriate care interventions.

  1. Apply team care strategies to support individuals with Parkinson’s and their care partners in improving self-management and quality of life.

  1. Engage in interprofessional collaboration to optimize care coordination and improve outcomes for people with Parkinson’s and their care partners.

  1. Strengthen interprofessional networks and community partnerships to enhance the delivery of comprehensive team-based care.

How to Apply?

Step 1: Interested PGY3 Neurology residents should email Denise Beran at TeamTraining@Parkinson.org for pre-approval to secure a seat in the program.

Step 2: Email with registration link will be sent on May 1. Residents will have 5 days to complete the registration, before the seat is given to someone on the waitlist.
