Parkinson’s Foundation Expands Moving Day Walk

Nation’s largest Walk for Parkinson’s Includes Three New Locations

MIAMI & NEW YORK (September 3, 2024) – Today, the Parkinson’s Foundation announced the Fall 2024 event lineup for Moving Day, A Walk for Parkinson’s. Moving Day is the Foundation’s signature fundraising event and a movement for more awareness, funding and a better understanding of Parkinson's disease (PD). Continuing to expand its presence across the country, Moving Day is adding three new cities to its exciting roster of events, bringing the total to 21 cities in the United States this fall.

“Moving Day brings together a passionate community united in honoring loved ones with Parkinson’s through embracing the power of exercise – proven to help manage Parkinson’s symptoms,” said Kayln Henkel, senior vice president and chief advancement officer of the Parkinson’s Foundation. “Through our dedicated volunteers, the Foundation offers a unique opportunity to connect with others on similar journeys, discover invaluable resources and foster meaningful connections.”

Parkinson’s affects an estimated one million Americans and 10 million worldwide, making it the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s. Moving Day is an inspiring fundraising event that honors loved ones with PD, celebrates movement and raises funds to advance quality care and cutting-edge research. Leading up to each event, participants and teams fundraise to support the Foundation’s mission to make life better for people living with PD.

There are three new Moving Day event locations: Moving Day Indianapolis (Sept. 21), Moving Day Richmond (Oct.12), and Moving Day Birmingham (Nov. 2).

In addition to local events, the Foundation also hosts Moving Day @ Home — a virtual walk experience that allows supporters to participate in Moving Day from anywhere in the country. The event welcomes people of all ages and abilities, especially those without a nearby event.

“Every year, I move for my dad,” said Moving Day Dayton participant and volunteer Breck Jordan. “I miss him dearly and participating in Moving Day allows me an opportunity to honor him by supporting an event I love and a Foundation that helps people living with PD have a better life.”

Since 2011, Moving Day has gathered more than 186,000 participants and raised nearly $45 million to support the Foundation’s national mission of delivering quality care to nearly 200,000 people living with Parkinson’s, advancing PD research toward a cure and providing free resources and local services for people living with PD and their families.

About Parkinson’s Disease
Affecting an estimated one million Americans, Parkinson’s disease is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s and is the 14th-leading cause of death in the U.S. It is associated with a progressive loss of motor control (e.g., shaking or tremor at rest and lack of facial expression), as well as non-motor symptoms (e.g., depression and anxiety). There is no cure for Parkinson’s and nearly 90,000 new cases are diagnosed each year in the U.S.
