Parkinson’s Foundation Reach Further Campaign Raises $38.4 Million

Campaign exceeds fundraising goal one year ahead of schedule

MIAMI & NEW YORK (July 23, 2024) – The Parkinson’s Foundation announced the conclusion of the Reach Further fundraising campaign which raised $38.4 million toward accelerating Parkinson’s disease (PD) research. With an initial goal of $30 million, the campaign exceeded it by $8.4 million and ended one year ahead of schedule.

“Exceeding our campaign goal is a huge milestone and we are so grateful to every person who made this campaign a priority,” said President & CEO of the Parkinson’s Foundation John L. Lehr. “These funds allow us to accelerate our mission and create a lasting impact in the lives of people with Parkinson’s.”

Parkinson’s disease is now the fastest-growing neurological condition in the world. Each year, 90,000 people in the U.S. are newly diagnosed with PD, and the number of people living with PD across the country is expected to rise to 1.2 million by 2030.

As the Foundation’s capstone comprehensive fundraising initiative, Reach Further launched in 2021 with the aim of making significant investments in promising research and treatments. Reach Further has allowed the Foundation to:

  • Expand PD GENEration: Mapping the Future of Parkinson’s Disease, the Foundation’s landmark genetics study.
  • Invest in drug discovery and development through the Parkinson’s Virtual Biotech research-driven investment fund.
  • Grow the Foundation’s Global Care Network with 18 newly designated centers.
  • Fund numerous local community programs that help people live well with PD.

“Not only has Reach Further helped to support scientists focusing on the speediest routes to breakthroughs, but it has also helped us ensure more people have access to quality clinical care,” said Kayln Henkel, Senior Vice President and Chief Advancement Officer of the Parkinson’s Foundation. “We have expanded our reach across the country, by addressing the growing demand for support services in local communities and attending to the needs of even more people living with Parkinson’s and their families.”

About Parkinson’s Disease
Affecting an estimated one million Americans, Parkinson’s disease is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s and is the 14th-leading cause of death in the U.S. It is associated with a progressive loss of motor control (e.g., shaking or tremor at rest and lack of facial expression), as well as non-motor symptoms (e.g., depression and anxiety). There is no cure for Parkinson’s and nearly 90,000 new cases are diagnosed each year in the U.S.
