In Memory of Paul F. Oreffice
The Parkinson’s Foundation mourns the passing of esteemed Emeritus Board member Paul Oreffice, who passed away on December 26, 2024. A dedicated Parkinson’s advocate, Paul served on the National Parkinson Foundation board since 1989 and served as Chairman from 2003 to 2007. In 2016, he moved to the Emeritus Board, where he continued to be an active and passionate supporter of our mission. His unwavering commitment to the Parkinson’s community will be remembered and cherished.
"Paul Oreffice was a visionary leader and a passionate advocate for the Parkinson’s community," said John Lehr, President and CEO of the Parkinson’s Foundation. "His unwavering dedication and generosity have left an indelible mark on our mission and the lives of those impacted by Parkinson’s. We are deeply grateful for his years of commitment."
Paul lived the American dream. He was born in Venice, Italy, in 1927 and moved with his family to Quito, Ecuador, in 1940. In 1945 he left for the U.S., speaking fewer than 50 words of English. Nine years later he graduated from Purdue University with a degree in chemical engineering and served in the U.S. Army for two years. Paul had an industrious career in the Dow Chemical Company, where he worked his way to president and CEO in 1978, retiring in 1992.
Paul believed in giving back. He served on the boards of CIGNA, Coca-Cola, Morgan Stanley and Nortel Networks, in addition to the Parkinson’s Foundation. Paul also received Spain's highest civilian award and medals awarded by the world's three premier chemical organizations.
Paul’s most significant achievements were with his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Jo Ann Pepper Oreffice; his children, Laura Jennison and Andy Oreffice; his grandchildren, Drew Jennison, Alex Jennison, and Kyle, Jillian, Lila and John Paul Oreffice; and his great-granddaughter Josie.
The staff and board of the Foundation offer our deepest condolences to the Oreffice family.
