Chief Medical Officer
Position Status: Full-Time (60% - 80% FTE) – Exempt
Reports to: President & CEO
Location: Remote (US-based), with occasional travel
Description

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for providing medical and clinical care leadership to the Parkinson’s Foundation. As a member of the Foundation’s executive leadership team (ELT), the CMO acts as a strategic thought partner to the Chief Executive Officer and the senior programs team. The CMO helps set the strategic and tactical direction of the Foundation’s care portfolio, ensuring that Foundation programs and initiatives that support access to quality care are impactful, scalable, sustainable, and measurable. The CMO will represent the organization internally and externally as a clinical expert in Parkinson’s disease.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Provides leadership on all programmatic initiatives related to the clinical treatment of people living with Parkinson’s disease. This includes the development, enhancement, and/or dissemination of clinical best practices across medical disciplines treating people with Parkinson’s disease (e.g., neurology, primary care, rehabilitation medicine, mental health, etc.).

Leads select clinical research activities of the Foundation. Collaborates with external partners, organizations, clinicians and researchers to advance Parkinson’s disease clinical research studies.

Stays current on Parkinson’s care and clinical research and serves as an expert resource for the Foundation staff, Board of Directors, and external agencies, companies and individuals; and provides clinical perspective to inform Foundation’s education, communications, research funding, fundraising, advocacy and outreach efforts.

Serves as a thought leader on clinical care issues and represents the Foundation in national media, at national and international medical conferences and meetings (including, but not limited to AAN, MDS Congress, World Parkinson Congress, the Foundation’s annual Centers Leadership Conference) and with donors and donor engagement.

Leads the Foundation’s Medical Advisory Board, and other committees / working groups as designated.

Communicates outcomes, progress, and impact of the Foundation’s clinical and medical research program to a wide array of constituents.

Collaborates closely with the leads of the Clinical Affairs, Patient Education, Professional Education, and Strategic Initiatives Departments to ensure alignment of Foundation programs across the care continuum.

Works closely with the Professional Education department on continuing education accreditation courses and ongoing Joint Accreditation reporting.

Participates, as a member of the ELT, in partner development, organizational management, strategic planning, and Board of Directors meetings.
Experience/Skills Required

ABMS Board-certified in neurology or psychiatry.

Candidate may maintain an outside clinical practice up to 40% FTE.

May work remotely, with the ability to travel to the NY headquarters with relative frequency and ease.

Ability to network and establish relationships with key stakeholders, including lay and professional volunteers, medical professionals, donors, staff, government agencies, other foundations and industry.

Demonstrated experience in a team-oriented, collaborative and cross-functional environment.

Ability to travel.

Experience supervising and managing teams.
-
Ability to master and communicate current and future disease and treatment information for the purpose of serving as an inward and outward facing resource.

Ability to convey clinical, scientific and technical information to a diverse group of audiences.

Experience with continuing medical education (CME) programs and planning of medical professional educational events.

Excellent oral and written communications skills.

5+ years of experience in the care of patients living with Parkinson’s disease
-
Clinical and research experience in Parkinson’s disease, preferably with some experience with clinical trials.

Working in an academic university setting.
Compensation
Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. In addition, a comprehensive benefits package is included. Salary and fringe will cover the 60-80% FTE at the affiliated university setting. The salary range for this position is $220,000 to $240,000.
