advancing Research
Progress towards new medicines, better therapies and eventually a cure relies, almost exclusively, on innovative, high-quality research. From frontline doctors and geneticists to scientists running clinical trials to academics testing theories in the lab, a broad continuum of investigation and inquiry is critical to advancing the science on Parkinson’s. If we hope to improve the lives of those living with Parkinson’s today, as well as the future for those not yet diagnosed, we must intensify our research efforts.
PD GENEration for
Accelerating New Therapies
PD GENEration: Mapping the Future of Parkinson’s Disease initiative provides the most comprehensive genetic testing and counseling for up to 15,000 individuals with a Parkinson’s diagnosis at no cost. This initiative identifies genetic mutations related to Parkinson’s to fast-track enrollment in clinical trials that will achieve breakthroughs in treatment and care for all people with Parkinson’s.
Parkinson’s Virtual Biotech
Driving Research
The Parkinson’s Foundation, in partnership with Parkinson’s UK, directly invests in drug discovery and development through the Parkinson’s Virtual Biotech to accelerate the breakthroughs in treatments that people with Parkinson’s disease need today. By fast-tracking the transformation of research, we can deliver the next new treatment in years, not decades.
How We Will Reach Further in research
The Reach Further campaign will raise $20 million in dedicated funds to accelerate new treatments and investigate early-stage drug discovery and development. When the stakes are so high and so much remains unknown, we want to cast the widest possible net when it comes to investing in research that could lead to a cure.
expanding Our Clinical Care Network
Living well with Parkinson’s disease means having access to the right health care professionals, medications and services. No one with Parkinson’s should go without the care they need because of distance or other obstacles. At present, delivery of comprehensive Parkinson’s resources in the United States is not easily accessible outside of the Parkinson’s Foundation Centers of Excellence network. We aspire to provide better, more attainable care to the one million Americans living with Parkinson’s.
How We Will Reach Further in care
The Reach Further campaign will raise $5 million in dedicated funds to accelerate the expansion of our newly designated Global Care Network. We will expand the network by 50 percent to areas where little or no comprehensive care currently exists, with a particular emphasis on underserved and hard-to-reach areas. To accomplish this, we will increase the number of Centers of Excellence within our network from 47 to 60 and add a new level of designation for 15 Comprehensive Care Centers providing outstanding clinical care and resources for people living with Parkinson’s.
50 %
growing Community Programs
The health and quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s also depends on access to educational, wellness and support programs. Through our community education programs and local community grant programs, the Parkinson’s Foundation helps get resources directly into the hands of people living with the disease and their families. With the goal of reaching people with Parkinson’s across the US, the delivery of these community-based resources is imperative.
How We Will Reach Further in community programs
The Reach Further campaign will raise $5 million in dedicated funds to increase support of community programs by 30 percent, both virtual and in-person, to meet the growing demand for information on mental health, care partner support, veteran’s programming, health and wellness courses, newly diagnosed services, and other local resources for people with Parkinson’s and their families.
30 %
A promise for the Future
The Parkinson’s Foundation has a history of driving change through investment in cutting-edge research and through the development and expansion of high-quality care networks. Since our inception, we also have led the charge in funneling resources and support back into the PD community to improve the quality of life of those living with Parkinson’s now. This uniquely positions the Parkinson’s Foundation to address the demands of today as well as those of tomorrow by advancing research, improving access to clinical care, and meeting a rising demand for community-based services.
Help Us Reach Further
The Reach Further Campaign will raise a total of $30 million in additional funding over the next four years in support of these bold initiatives. Join us in these efforts as, together, we make life better for people with Parkinson’s today and in the future.
