Postdoctoral Fellowship Application Instructions & Deadlines
The Parkinson’s Foundation application process is highly competitive and only five percent of all proposals receive funding. To make the process more efficient for both applicants and reviewers, we require a two-step application. Initially, we ask applicants to send a letter of Intent. If selected by reviewers, the applicant can proceed to submit a full proposal.
You must submit the application here; we will not accept paper copies. The Parkinson’s Foundation will only consider funding applicants who submit intent letters by the specified deadline. We will notify applicants invited to submit a full proposal at least six weeks prior to the full application deadline. Please browse current grant deadlines here.
Postdoctoral applicants can review Parkinson’s Foundation application instructions for more information.
Review & Decisions
We peer-review and competitively rank all proposals based upon scientific merit and impact upon Parkinson’s disease. Expect final decisions by mid-April. We typically begin first-year funding June 1 and end it May 31 the following year.
We require applicants who successfully receive Parkinson’s Foundation research funding to identify the foundation as a source of support in all published works and presentations. Forward a copy of any such papers to email@example.com.
The Parkinson’s Foundation also requires fellowship recipients to account for all expenditures.
Should researchers want to file a consecutive fellowship application, a preliminary report of the current research is due along with the new application.
PF-APDA Summer Student Fellowships Application Instructions and Deadlines
Submit applications online. The application period typically opens in December and closes in late January. Please see our grants deadline page for current dates. We typically notify successful applicants in mid-March.
A complete application must consist of the following five items:
- Brief two-page proposal written by applicant in conjunction with mentor describing the research plan
- Copy of applicant’s academic transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
- Applicant statement describing why he or she is interested in conducting Parkinson's research, qualifications and the research relevance to future career or research interests
- Mentor-written support letter discussing student qualifications, affirming available facilities and materials and agreeing to actively guide the student’s work. Mentors must send this letter separately to firstname.lastname@example.org with “Summer Fellowship” in the subject line. All letters must be submitted by application deadline
- Completed application.
Note: We will reject incorrect or incomplete applications without comment.
Review & Decisions
The Parkinson’s Foundation judges applications based on the feasibility of the applicant's project, the applicant’s background and the appropriateness of the mentor. We typically make final decisions in mid-March and will contact all candidates at that time. Successful applicant funding may begin as early as June 1.
