Safety at Home

Parkinson’s disease can eventually lead to slow or delayed balance responses. For example, it may cause tripping episodes due to the shuffling walking pattern. In addition, sometimes a person may experience “freezing” episodes that can lead to a sudden loss of balance and result in falling. Your doctor may recommend a Home Safety Evaluation in which an Occupational Therapist will come to your home and provide tips to make your home safer.

In this section, we will explore ways to create a safer home environment thereby helping patients with PD reduce the likelihood of falling and injury.
