Nominated by Laura Dauffenbach
Please accept this nomination for Kevin Burkart as a Parkinson’s Superstar. Kevin’s story is unique, and one that goes above and beyond the call of duty for bringing awareness and a spotlight to Parkinson’s Disease. Gary Burkart, Kevin’s father, was diagnosed with PD in 1999.
With this news, Kevin became an active member in the PD community by joining the board and participating in fundraisers. But Kevin, being the savvy businessman that he is, saw the need for more. He set out with a mission and from here his story unfolds.
On June 4, 2008, the stage was set as Kevin performed 100 skydives in one day and raised over $48,000 for Parkinson’s Disease.
On June 16, 2010, Kevin returned to the skies, determined to set the bar even higher at 200 skydives in 24 hours. Weather was inclement as thick fog hampered the effort. Undeterred, Kevin tightened his schedule and was able to perfect 150 jumps. With this effort, Kevin raised awareness and over $68,000 for the fight against Parkinson’s Disease.
In 2013 Kevin will once again take flight on Tuesday, June 19, he will attempt to achieve an incredible 300 skydives in one day and complete the work that began 3 years ago.
Through the work of Perfect Jumps, Kevin has been able to grow a commendable team of volunteers, supporters, and has had a profound impact on those with PD. Stories have been shared, lives have been touched, and Kevin in all of his admirable bravery, has made each and every one of us grateful and proud of his hard work.
